Diploma in Photography

Tuition-free structured diploma course conducted continuously for more than 50 years.

Curriculum & Practical Training

• Structured 3-Year Theoretical Syllabus: Covering camera optics, light dynamics, visual composition, digital workflow, and artistic philosophy.
• 4 Annual Field Practical Sessions: Conducted in identified heritage, wildlife, and landscape locations across Sri Lanka.
• Monthly Competitions: Practical photo critiques and competitive submissions among fellow students.
• Specialized Masterclasses: Annual Studio Lighting Workshops and landscape expeditions.

Eligibility & Progressive Certification

• Who Can Apply: Any Sri Lankan citizen aged 15 or older, or any registered member of NPAS.
• Attendance: Minimum 60% session attendance is mandatory to sit for year-end examinations.
• Year 1 & 2 Awards: Candidates passing written and practical examinations receive the Certificate in Photography.
• Year 3 Award: Successful completion of the full 3-year curriculum and final portfolio qualifies the member for the Diploma in Photography.

Overview & Direct Pathway to Diploma

The National Examination of Photography for Schools is conducted annually for student photographers across the island. Students who pass the written exam are awarded the National Certificate and advance to practical testing.

How Schools & Students Apply

• Who Can Apply: Any student studying photography in school or active in their school photographic society.
• School Nomination: The photographic club can be formally nominated by a letter to the Director Registrar signed by the School Principal.
• Application Timeline: Forms are made available annually in October / November on the NPAS portal, certified by the teacher-in-charge and Principal.
